Refreshing Your Home Design For The New Year

After all your guests have gone home after the holidays, you may be looking at a home that needs a little TLC. With a new year upon us, nothing feels like “new year, new me” like a change in your surroundings. If you're feeling a little overwhelmed on where to start, look no further!  Here are some easy tips to refresh your home design for the new year:

 New Paint Or Wallpaper

The quickest way to refresh a space is to change the color of the walls. Pick a color or wallpaper pattern that makes you feel happy, or one that complements the color palette you’re looking for. If you’re looking for the new “it” color, consider the following - muted pastels, dark greens, or lilac gray.

Cleaning/Replacing Curtains

If redoing your walls seems like too much work, you can wash your curtains. Check the fabric to see how best to clean them before throwing it in the wash. Doing this can make your home feel refreshed as curtains can collect dust and dirt throughout the year. If you want more change, replace your curtains with a new pattern or color.

New Fabric for Cushions & Throws

If your living room is looking a little dull, new material always gives it new life. Use new fabric for your throws and cushions. Fabrics That Go has over 10,000 different fabrics to choose from, and we'll do the measurements and labor for you!

Bring in your ideas to Fabrics That Go to get professional consultations on style, & costs for customized throws and cushions.

New Decor

Another small change you can implement in your home is by updating your decor and trinkets around your home. This may be something like small plants or succulents, decorative books, baskets, etc. Just be sure they all come together with with a similar theme or color palette.

Update Furniture

With all the hosting you’ve done during the holidays, the fabric on your furniture may have seen its last days. If the thought of replacing your furniture entirely is too daunting of a task, you can just reupholster your current furniture - either by replacing the fabric with the same color or a new pattern. Welcome Your Family For Thanksgiving With These Decorating Tips

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, you’ll want to make sure that your home is decorated in a way that makes your home cozy and ready to welcome the family. Here are a few tips to get your home holiday ready.

TABLE RUNNER OR TABLE CLOTH

The best way to begin decorating is by starting with the base of your table - table cloths and/or table runners. This is an easy way to spruce up an older table, especially if your table is showing signs of wear. If you can’t find the right pattern or color to match your home, this is a simple DIY project that doesn’t require a lot of sewing! Once you’ve laid down your runner or tablecloth, add some pumpkins or greenery to get in the festive spirit.

Add some Arizona Flavor by choosing Southwestern fabrics! Shop at Fabrics That Go and get 10-50% off thousands of fabrics! Southwestern & Outdoor Included!

DINNER NAPKINS

You don’t have to be skilled at folding napkins to make your table look elegant. A simple fold with decorative touches make it look just as nice! Think about tucking the silverware into the napkin to keep everything in one spot, or tie the napkin with twine and greenery to match the rest of the decor on the table. You can also add a name tag on top of the napkins to give it a personalized touch.

COZY THROWS & PILLOWS

Make sure to have plenty of comfy pillows & throw blankets around for when the weather cools down and the family begins to get chilly.

Choose neutral fabric for simplistic style, or get adventurous and pick a unique pattern to make a statement. Come in to Fabrics That Go for any style!

All of these decor ideas can be purchased at many home decor stores, but you can accomplish a more unique and customized home just as easily with a little time and a little bit of sewing. Decorating Your Home For Halloween

When the weather starts to cool down and the kids are back in school, you know Halloween is not too far. To get in the proper spooky spirit, here are some tips on how to decorate your home for Halloween!

PUMPKIN PARTY

The best way to get into the spirit of Halloween is to decorate your home with pumpkins.

Whether that’s artificial pumpkins, or you gather the family to carve real pumpkins, nothing says fall and Halloween quite like decorating with pumpkins!

SCARY SPIDERS

Typically most people try to get rid of the spiders in their home. Halloween time calls for plenty of scary spiders and creepy crawlers. From tiny plastic spiders to a life size version, you can never go wrong when decorating your home with spiders and their webs. Try a DIY project to make your own spiders (maybe even some friendly ones). Don’t forget to pick up fuzzy fabric to really bring out a tarantula’s form!

SPOOKY SPELL BOOKS

Boil, boil, toil and trouble. When your witchy instincts kick in, you’ll want to make sure your home is Halloween complete with spell books. This DIY project is a breeze. Buy some leather fabric, distress and antique it, then cover an old book. Stack your spellbooks with some potion bottles (hint: wine bottles give it an adult spin) and you’re ready to put a spell on your next guest.

CREEPY CLOTHS

Bring your decor together in the fabrics most easily changed - pillows, tablecloths, and napkins! These three cloth items live in everyone’s house and if you just want a touch of Halloween, what better way than to change this out in your home? They can be found in many stores, however these are also easy DIY projects. Find frightening fabrics and know that doing all three of these requires minimal sewing skills. Check out this DIY from HGTV for petrifying pillow inspiration.

Whether you’re making fuzzy spiders, authentic spell books, or decorating your home more inconspicuously with pillows and tablecloths, the fact of the matter is that you’re going to be searching for fabrics to pull off these DIY projects. Fabrics That Go has the ghoulish fabrics you need for this haunted holiday. They carry rare buttons along with 10,000+ fabrics to choose from! With over 30 years in business, Fabrics That Go has experts that can give advice on many DIY projects - including those paralyzing pillows you’ll want to make.

Using Patterns To Bring Personality To Your Arizona Home

When it comes to decorating your home, there are many places you can start. Some begin with finding cool knick-knacks, while others stick to throw pillows and curtains. However you start, just make sure it represents your personality! One easy way to do this is by using patterns in your decor. Here are a few ways to incorporate chic, quirky, or simple patterns -

BEDDING

When picking out bedding, some may stick to solid colors. If you’re trying to make your bedrooms look like a hotel, then a solid color may be your number one choice. To be more bold, have fun and pick out a pattern like chevron stripes, polka dots, or even something moroccan/southwestern inspired!

PILLOWS

Throw pillows are always fun to pick out. They can change with the season or change with your mood! There are quirky pillows with animals on it, or simple striped pillows that match most decor in most homes. Whatever you decide, make sure it’s something that screams you. If you can’t find the exact pattern you’re looking for, don’t forget that a throw pillow case is an easy and simple DIY that anyone can jump into.

CURTAINS

If you’re looking to add shade in your home while also giving it a subtle pop of personality, try looking to patterned curtains. When shopping for patterns here, it’s usually safer to stick to simple patterns such as stripes or textured fabric so as to not overpower the rest of the decor in your home. Curtains are also an easy DIY project. There are many tutorials online - some don’t even require you to sew!

UPHOLSTERY

If you’re looking for a bigger, louder way to show who you are, why not pick a pattern for your upholstery? Whether that’s a couch or a chair, it’s another way to incorporate patterns into your home. The only tough part is that you may not find the right pattern to fit your home. If you find yourself running into this problem, this is another DIY project you can tackle. However, it is a little more advanced than making a pillowcase or curtain.

Should you feel intimidated by the prospect of reupholstering an entire piece of furniture, look for a company that can do it for you.

Tucson-based company, Fabrics That Go, is a one stop shop for this.

They carry over 10,000 bolts of fabric to choose from where you’re sure to find the right pattern, and they even have their own reupholstery service for those who aren’t interested in doing it themselves!

Fabrics That Go is a family-owned company run by a mother-son duo. They have been a part of Tucson community for over 30 years and going strong! Their knowledge in fabrics and DIY projects make them and their employees experts and are more than welcome to give advice on your future projects.

Bring Out Your Style In Your Bedroom With Bedding & Drapery

When you have finally decided on a style you like for your bedroom, make sure you enhance it with small touches like decor. However, another way to complement your style is making sure your bedding and drapery match it.

Headboard Upholstery

Do you have a fabric upholstered headboard? An issue many people face is wearing, fading, or stained headboard fabric. Sometimes the style is just outdated. Instead of giving up on your headboard, you can give it new life with new fabric. Fabrics That Go offers full service to the Tucson Community, come in TODAY to choose the right fabric to match the style of your bedroom, send us a picture of your headboard with dimensions, and we'll be happy to pick it up and upholster it.

BEDDING

When picking out bedding, comfort is not the only thing to consider. If your room style is nautical, then floral sheets probably wouldn’t be the best option for you. Be sure to find sheet sets that match the rest of the room. Some nautical bedding styles could be as simple as a white and navy blue striped duvet set. It doesn’t need to scream the style you’re going for. In fact, it’s better to go with a whisper of the style.

DRAPERY

Most will think drapery is primarily used to block the sun. While this is a great use, never forget that it can also pull together a room’s style. So when you’re picking it out, be sure to pick something that will be functional and stylish. Typically, solid colors are easiest to find as well as the most versatile. For example, if you’re decorating for shabby chic, white is the most used color. If the style is rustic, you’ll want to stick more towards warmer neutral colors - tans, browns, etc.

Obviously, your bedding and drapery can really pull together a room and give a feel of what you’re trying to portray as your style. These two items are what help you stay on the more masculine side, or it’s what can help a masculine style feel a little more feminine. Decor is important, but never forget that the fabric completes the story.

If you’re having trouble finding the right fabric for your bedding or drapery, you can always make it yourself! Something as simple as a throw pillow or curtains is a quick, and easy DIY project that anyone can do. Tucson based fabric store, Fabrics That Go supplies over 10,000 bolts of fabric, so no matter your style, you should have no problem finding the right one for your bedroom. If you’re not quite sure what fabric exemplifies the style you’re going after, the knowledgeable experts at the store can help you along the way.

What’s Your Style? Different Home Design Styles & How To Recognize Them

Do you go into a store to look for new decor but you’re not quite sure how to explain your personal design style? You’re not alone! With all the differing styles, sometimes we combine several styles together. Typical home design has rules, but never feel like you’re limited to just one design style.

Here are some home design styles and how to recognize each one -

MODERN

Modern design is a vague term, but usually refers to decor and pieces with clean, crisp lines and a simple color palette. Typically this design style incorporates a lot of metal, glass, and steel.

With this you’ll want to make sure you don’t over decorate as a modern design is set with the idea that there is very little clutter and gives a feeling of sleekness.

INDUSTRIAL

Industrial design is as simple as it sounds. It takes inspiration from industrial buildings such as warehouses and lofts and incorporates it into the design. It usually leans towards the more unfinished look, a neutral color palette, and a few pieces of art that bring in some color.

One of the most popular ways to incorporate this design style is with lighting fixtures - many of which are hanging with exposed bulbs.

TRADITIONAL

This design style refers to classic details with a lot of decor pieces, ornate furniture. Typically a home with this style will feature dark wood, rich color palettes, and different textures and curved lines.

Traditional also likes to play on luxurious fabrics like velvet, silk and brocade.

BOHEMIAN

If you’re looking for a more carefree design, Bohemian is the one you’re looking for. It reflects a carefree lifestyle and there are little rules when it comes to decorating bohemian.

These homes could include vintage furniture, rugs inspired from other cultures, and decor that could be found at a flea market.

Bohemian style is a laid back style that doesn’t have strict rules - anything goes as long as it’s something you love.

RUSTIC

One of the more popular designs these days, Rustic design, draws from inspiration of the natural. Raw and unfinished design pieces are often used including wood and stone.

Many homes utilize decor that mimics the outdoors and pairs it with vaulted ceilings, wooden beams, and reclaimed wood.

SHABBY CHIC

Shabby Chic design is similar to Bohemian, but tends to fall more towards the feminine side by showing off a softer, more delicate choice in decor pieces.

Furnishing is often distressed (or looks like it) with antique finishes. The color palette typically stays in the white, cream, and pastels. To bring a more feminine vibe, most use lighting fixtures that look more luxurious (this is the Chic side of Shabby Chic).

These are just a few of the popular designs you’ll see. Whatever your design vibe is, remember that you don’t always have to buy expensive items to perfect your home. There are many DIY projects to consider when designing. If it’s fabric that you’re looking for, a company in Tucson, Fabrics That Go, carries more than 10,000 bolts of fabric. You can find all your design aesthetics in addition to many others that you may have forgotten, or didn’t know existed!

This fabric store is owned by a mother/son duo that care deeply for their customers and community. So whether you’re looking for decorative nails to put finishing touches on antique furniture, or you’re recreating a piece of furniture completely, the experts at Fabrics That Go can help with all your project needs!

How The Boho Chic Movement Is Bringing Back Southwestern Fabric

Bohemian style is known as portraying a carefree, eclectic design. Boho-chic is taking the bohemian style and bringing it together with some modern flair. Most designers will look to using furnishings and lighting to bring in the modern touches while sticking to decor pieces like pillows, rugs, art, and bringing in fabrics/textiles to the furniture to give the bohemian feel. Fabrics and textiles to consider using include those that pull from Moroccan influences, Native American, and the growing popularity of Southwestern.

When looking to add the boho look, keep an eye out for fabrics and pieces that have a nomadic vibe. This includes the Southwestern style. Combine the fabrics and textiles with wood and metallic accents.

The boho chic style is making a comeback due to rising popularity of a vintage feel, but wanting to still have a put together look. It celebrates history and culture in a way that others may not think of right away.

If you’re looking to save some money or are having trouble finding the right look for your boho chic style, you can consider doing a few small DIY projects. Here are some ideas to bring this style into your home -

DIY Macrame Wall Decor

Macrame is extremely popular in design. You can find something similar in a store like Urban Outfitters but pay triple the price that you would pay if you were to make it yourself.

All it takes is a couple hours of braiding/knotting, fabric, and a wooden dowel. Google or YouTube a tutorial and you’ll find plenty to follow along to.

DIY Reupholster

Using the right fabric is important to the look/feel of boho chic. It can be difficult to find the right furniture in store, so what better way than to have custom furniture? Take an older piece (or less expensive) and find a boho type fabric - such as Southwestern - and reupholster it! It can be intimidating, but there are plenty of DIY instructions online.

DIY Trinkets and Pillows

A jewelry or catch-all tray can easily become boho-chic with a little gold/silver metallic paint paired with a pop of reds, purples, or bright blues.

Are you having trouble finding any of these specific fabrics? A local Tucson company called Fabrics That Go have over 10,000 bolts of fabric to choose from. You’ll be able to find everything from buttons to decorative nails.
