Considering Style & Function in Drapery

A room is incomplete without drapery. Drapery gives depth and dimension to a space, and helps you set the tone of the room. Every drapery decor is based on individual taste, window orientation, and function. Here are ways drapery styles & function can work together:.

Block Out Sunlight with Roman Shades

This clean-cut drapery can look a little rigid, but choosing the right fabric can fix that. What’s great about roman shades is that there’s no fuss - all you have to do is pull a string, and it’s rolled up. Roman shades are often made of thick, black-out type fabrics to control the amount of natural sunlight coming into a room. This makes it great for rooms where you need to keep distraction from the outside at a minimum, like bedrooms or study rooms.

Using Valances in Small Spaces

In areas such as kitchens, where long drapery is impractical, window valance is your go-to style. Valances are simple and easy to clean. They’re also pretty versatile. In other rooms, you can use valances along with long drapery to give your windows more depth. They’re also a great way to hide your curtain rods.

Let the Light in With Sheer Drapery

Sheer drapery can give your windows an elegant look. They’re mostly used in living rooms because they let more light in than any kind of drapery fabric. While this means there’s less privacy, they’re often paired with opaque fabric for contrast. One popular way of styling sheer drapery is flanking it with geometric or floral patterns.

Refreshing Your Home Style for The New Year

Another decade is about to begin. 2020 is expected to bring us fresh interior design trends that we will definitely want to apply to our homes. But as we look around our homes to determine what we should get rid of or replace, let’s remind ourselves that some things can be fixed and given new looks. Here are some ways to refresh your home style for the new year, without disposing much of your old stuff!

Custom Bedding & Drapery

If you have a specific look in mind for your rooms - it may be hard to find drapery & bedding that matches your vision. Having custom drapery and bedding made for your rooms will make it easier to coordinate things.

When choosing drapery fabric, color and texture is not the only thing you should consider. You should also take note of the type of drapery - box pleated, rod pocket and grommet drapery are just a few examples.  To tie the look together, your headboard and custom bedding should match or complement the paint and flooring of the room.

Deck the Halls with new drapery or check out the eye-catching fabrics for upholstery. New Items for every taste; colorful velvets, cactus prints, casual and mid-century geometrics, among the thousands of fabrics available.

Upcycle & Refresh Old Furniture

Think following trends is wasteful? According to Pinterest, more and more people are getting interested in thrifted home decor in order to follow a low-waste lifestyle. Recently, searches for the phrase thrifted home decor went up by 308%.

If you have an old heirloom chair, you can have it reupholstered with a fabric that suits your taste. Colorful velvets, eclectic prints, mid-century geometrics, and southwestern patterns are some of the most popular styles for upholstery fabric.

Outdoor furniture looking a little drab? Using slipcovers is an easy way to brighten up the space. Use bright or contrasting colors to make things look more interesting! Cushions and throws also add extra comfort to wooden benches or patio sets.

Foam for Comfort

Foam is something a lot of people forget about when redesigning their homes. After all, we don’t see it. However, if your dining chair or couch is starting to feel a little uncomfortable, it may be time to change your foams. With expert craftsmanship, new foam can improve the look and return comfort to your dilapidated seats. It’s also good to think about the kind of fabric to pair with your new seats. It is recommended that you use durable, stain-resistant fabric if you use the seats very often.

Custom Projects For Every Room in Your Home

Refreshing your furniture? We’ve all been there. We spend hours looking for decorating inspiration online only to find the same trend over and over. When all else fails, let your imagination loose and think about how you would want your home to look. Don’t know where to start? Here’s a list of custom home projects for every room in your home.

Living Room

When choosing or replacing the furniture in your living room, seats, throws, and slipcovers should take priority over any other furniture, as they are the most used.

Accent Chairs - Start with accent chairs. This is the best way to break the monotony in any space is to use contrasting or complementary colors or patterns. Some accent chairs also look great with multi-fabric upholstery.

Ottomans - Ottomans are also a great addition to any living room, as it doubles as a seat and extra storage.

You may also use ottomans as an extension of your couch, or use it as a footstool.

Couches - Loveseats or three-seater couches? It depends on the amount of space you have of course! Regardless of the size, your couch is the centerpiece of the room, so you should be careful when choosing the fabric for upholstery. Couches usually have neutral colors (or patterns) so it’s easy to contrast with other chairs and throws.

Slipcovers - Slipcovers for your chairs and couches are great too if you want to change your style once in a while.

Dining Room

Dining Chairs - How do you choose the right fabric for your dining chairs? For starters, it depends on the type of material the chair is made of. There’s also size to consider, and the type of table you have. The best fabrics to use are stain-resistant fabrics like microfiber, or even outdoor performance fabrics Sunbrella.

Bedroom

When we think of the bedroom, the first thing that comes to mind is comfort. It’s not just about physical comfort - it’s also about how your bedroom looks.

Headboards - Headboards don’t only protect your walls from scratches, they give you visual comfort. If you’re the expressive type, you can also use the headboard as decor. You can use a variety of fabrics to upholster your headboard - from linen to velvet. Tufted headboards look great in more classic bedrooms, while leather headboards are perfect for a more industrial feel.

Bedding - Why settle for plain old sheets when you want to have maximum physical and visual comfort?

The most common - and perhaps the most comfortable - fabrics used for sheets and mattress covers are linen and cotton.

Backyard

Sometimes we just want to relax outdoors without leaving the comfort of our own homes. When choosing outdoor or patio furniture, consider fabrics that are comfortable, but at the same time, able to withstand the wear and tear.

Patio Furniture - From couches to throws, umbrellas to awnings, the best outdoor fabric should be able to withstand the wear and tear. How do you determine if a fabric is strong enough? Ask your local fabric store about double rubs or abrasion rating. An abrasion rating of 20,000 should be enough for heavy use.

Having custom furniture made to your specifications will make your home look one of a kind, a space that you can truly call your own. Fabrics That Go can help you turn your ideas into reality. Visit our store or contact us today.

Using Patterns To Bring Personality To Your Arizona Home

When it comes to decorating your home, there are many places you can start. Some begin with finding cool knick-knacks, while others stick to throw pillows and curtains. However you start, just make sure it represents your personality! One easy way to do this is by using patterns in your decor. Here are a few ways to incorporate chic, quirky, or simple patterns -

BEDDING

When picking out bedding, some may stick to solid colors. If you’re trying to make your bedrooms look like a hotel, then a solid color may be your number one choice. To be more bold, have fun and pick out a pattern like chevron stripes, polka dots, or even something moroccan/southwestern inspired!

PILLOWS

Throw pillows are always fun to pick out. They can change with the season or change with your mood! There are quirky pillows with animals on it, or simple striped pillows that match most decor in most homes. Whatever you decide, make sure it’s something that screams you. If you can’t find the exact pattern you’re looking for, don’t forget that a throw pillow case is an easy and simple DIY that anyone can jump into.

CURTAINS

If you’re looking to add shade in your home while also giving it a subtle pop of personality, try looking to patterned curtains. When shopping for patterns here, it’s usually safer to stick to simple patterns such as stripes or textured fabric so as to not overpower the rest of the decor in your home. Curtains are also an easy DIY project. There are many tutorials online - some don’t even require you to sew!

UPHOLSTERY

If you’re looking for a bigger, louder way to show who you are, why not pick a pattern for your upholstery? Whether that’s a couch or a chair, it’s another way to incorporate patterns into your home. The only tough part is that you may not find the right pattern to fit your home. If you find yourself running into this problem, this is another DIY project you can tackle. However, it is a little more advanced than making a pillowcase or curtain.

Should you feel intimidated by the prospect of reupholstering an entire piece of furniture, look for a company that can do it for you.

Tucson-based company, Fabrics That Go, is a one stop shop for this.

They carry over 10,000 bolts of fabric to choose from where you’re sure to find the right pattern, and they even have their own reupholstery service for those who aren’t interested in doing it themselves!

Fabrics That Go is a family-owned company run by a mother-son duo. They have been a part of Tucson community for 74 years and going strong! Their knowledge in fabrics and DIY projects make them and their employees experts and are more than welcome to give advice on your future projects.

Bring Out Your Style In Your Bedroom With Bedding & Drapery

When you have finally decided on a style you like for your bedroom, make sure you enhance it with small touches like decor. However, another way to complement your style is making sure your bedding and drapery match it.

Headboard Upholstery

Do you have a fabric upholstered headboard? An issue many people face is wearing, fading, or stained headboard fabric. Sometimes the style is just outdated. Instead of giving up on your headboard, you can give it new life with new fabric. Fabrics That Go offers full service to the Tucson Community, come in TODAY to choose the right fabric to match the style of your bedroom, send us a picture of your headboard with dimensions, and we'll be happy to pick it up and upholster it.

BEDDING

When picking out bedding, comfort is not the only thing to consider. If your room style is nautical, then floral sheets probably wouldn’t be the best option for you. Be sure to find sheet sets that match the rest of the room. Some nautical bedding styles could be as simple as a white and navy blue striped duvet set. It doesn’t need to scream the style you’re going for. In fact, it’s better to go with a whisper of the style.

DRAPERY

Most will think drapery is primarily used to block the sun. While this is a great use, never forget that it can also pull together a room’s style. So when you’re picking it out, be sure to pick something that will be functional and stylish. Typically, solid colors are easiest to find as well as the most versatile. For example, if you’re decorating for shabby chic, white is the most used color. If the style is rustic, you’ll want to stick more towards warmer neutral colors - tans, browns, etc.

Obviously, your bedding and drapery can really pull together a room and give a feel of what you’re trying to portray as your style. These two items are what help you stay on the more masculine side, or it’s what can help a masculine style feel a little more feminine. Decor is important, but never forget that the fabric completes the story.

If you’re having trouble finding the right fabric for your bedding or drapery, you can always make it yourself! Something as simple as a throw pillow or curtains is a quick, and easy DIY project that anyone can do. Tucson based fabric store, Fabrics That Go supplies over 10,000 bolts of fabric, so no matter your style, you should have no problem finding the right one for your bedroom. If you’re not quite sure what fabric exemplifies the style you’re going after, the knowledgeable experts at the store can help you along the way.
